What You Need To Know About Selling Gift Cards For Cash

Posted on

Did you get a lot of gift cards at graduation this year, or maybe on your last birthday? Are they gift cards for stores you never shop at or maybe stores you've never even heard of? Then it's time to think about selling those gift cards for cash. This FAQ will tell you everything you need to know about selling your gift cards for a huge percentage of their in-store value. The process is quick, easy and convenient.

Which businesses buy gift cards?

There are several different online services that are known to give cash for gift cards. These companies, such as CFC Gift Cards, offer competitive rates for gift cards from a variety of different stores.

How does the selling process work?

The seller inputs the type of card and the amount into the buyer company's website. The buyer company then makes an offer. Once the buyer company makes an offer, the seller has the option to accept the offer. If the seller accepts, he or she will be expected to either mail in the gift card or input the card's electronic code into the website. Some businesses will offer more money if the seller will agree to mail in the physical gift card. Once the gift card has been turned over to the buyer, the seller is either given a check, a gift card or an electronic payment.

Do all gift card buying businesses offer the same rates?

No. Sellers have the ability to shop around for the best sale amount by checking rates at a variety of businesses.

Is payment immediate?

Generally no. Payment arrives after the physical card has been received. In cases wherein the code is sent online, the payment can still take a couple days to arrive. In some cases, payment is made the next business day.

Is there a minimum amount that must be on a gift card before it can be sold?

Yes, but the minimum requirement can vary from one gift card buying business to the next.

Can you sell a gift card that has already been partially used?

Some businesses will buy partially used gift cards, although they still require a minimum amount to be met.

So, if you're stuck with gift cards you don't want, don't know what to do with and are sure that you'll never use, it could be time to look into selling your gift cards for cash. It's a good way to make money and unload those unwanted cards.
